1. Digitising Africa’s Resources & Energy for Sustainability and Growth 

AI, IoT, blockchain, and data-driven intelligence are redefining how Africa manages its natural wealth. This theme explores how technology can optimise mining operations, modernise national energy grids, secure water systems, and strengthen environmental compliance, driving both economic stability and sustainable development. 

2. Africa’s Digital Workforce: Skills, Jobs, and Women’s Leadership 

With Africa set to become the world’s largest labour force, the continent’s competitive edge will depend on digital skills and inclusive leadership pipelines. This sub-theme examines workforce development, youth readiness, and the central role of women in shaping Africa’s rise as a globally competitive tech-ready continent. 

3. Data Protection, Privacy & Cross-Border Digital Trade Compliance 

Africa’s digital economy cannot scale without trust. This theme focuses on harmonising data laws, safeguarding citizens’ privacy, and strengthening digital rights while enabling secure cross-border digital trade and unlocking Africa’s potential as a unified digital marketplace. 

4. Cybersecurity, E-Government & Trusted Digital Public Services

Strong digital nations require secure public infrastructure, resilient cybersecurity, and citizen-centric service delivery. This sub-theme explores e-government transformation, secure identity systems, digital trust frameworks, and the future of public-sector ICT leadership across Africa.

Prof Fred McBagonluri's Bio

Professor Fred McBagonluri is the Provost and President of Academic City University College in Ghana, as well as Board Chairman of the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IIPGH). With over two decades of global experience in engineering, innovation, research, and leadership, he is at the forefront of transforming Africa’s higher education landscape through technology and entrepreneurship.
 
Fred has built a distinguished career across industry and academia. In the United States, he held senior positions at global companies including Siemens Healthcare, Joerns Healthcare, and Becton Dickinson, where he led cutting-edge R&D and business strategy initiatives. He was instrumental in Siemens Medical’s digital manufacturing revolution, and his contributions span fields such as computer-aided design, artificial intelligence, 3D data processing, and advanced hearing systems. He holds over 40 patents and was recognized as the Black Engineer of the Year’s Most Promising Scientist in 2008, and as a NASA Astronaut Candidate Program finalist in 2009.
 
His academic credentials include a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the University of Dayton, a Master of Science in Engineering Science and Mechanics from Virginia Tech, a Bachelor of Science (Summa Cum Laude) in Manufacturing Engineering with a minor in Applied Mathematics from Central State University, and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Sloan Fellow.
 
Today, Fred’s work is centred on building a world-class, STEAM-focused university in Ghana that blends hands-on innovation with strong academic rigor. His vision is to nurture a new generation of African leaders who will help reshape the continent’s narrative through knowledge creation and transformative impact.

Charles Murito's Bio

Charles Murito is Google’s Regional Director, Government Affairs & Policy for Sub-Saharan Africa. He leads engagement with governments and regulators to promote digital transformation through progressive policies that drive inclusive economic growth.
 
Prior to this role, Charles served for nearly six years as Google’s Country Director for Kenya, and in 2019, also held the position of interim Country Director for South Africa. During his time in these roles, he led efforts to achieve ambitious sales and revenue targets while championing sustainable growth strategies across emerging markets. He also took on the role of Diversity and Inclusion Lead for Google’s EMEA Emerging Markets, collaborating with global teams to build a more equitable and inclusive organisation.
 
With over 20 years of experience in technology, media, and entertainment, Charles has held leadership roles at major global companies such as MTV Base, Warner Bros., and Turner Broadcasting.
 
In addition to his work at Google, Charles is a Non-Executive Board Director at Absa Bank Kenya, and a Co-Chair of the B20 Digital Taskforce. He previously served on the board of CSquared, a Google portfolio company focused on improving internet infrastructure in Africa.
 
Outside the professional arena, Charles is passionate about art, food, farming, and using technology as a force for economic development and societal progress.

Professor Nii Narku Quaynor's Bio

Professor Nii Narku Quaynor is a Ghanaian scientist and engineer celebrated as a pioneer of Africa’s Internet development. A graduate of Dartmouth College and the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he returned to Ghana in the early 1990s to establish some of the continent’s first Internet connections and found key organisations such as AfNOG and AfriNIC.
 
He is Chairman of Ghana Dot Com and Network Computer Systems, and has served in global leadership roles including ICANN Director for Africa, Commissioner for the Global Commission on Internet Governance, and member of the UN Secretary-General’s Advisory Group on ICT. He also helped found the University of Cape Coast’s Computer Science Department, where he continues as a professor.
 
Prof. Nii Quaynor’s contributions have earned global recognition, including induction into the Internet Hall of Fame, the Jonathan B. Postel Service Award, and the ICANN Multi-stakeholder Ethos Award. His work continues to shape Africa’s digital future through technology, policy, and education.
