The Technology Information Confederation Africa (TICON Africa) is at the helm of this movement, uniting ICT professionals across the continent to drive knowledge, education, and collaboration.

Recognising the vital role women play in shaping the future of technology, TICON Africa established the Women in TICON Africa Chapter, a dynamic initiative dedicated to empowering, supporting, and advancing women in the ICT sector. This chapter is more than just an advocacy platform; it is a catalyst for change, ensuring that African women in technology have the resources, networks, and opportunities to thrive in an industry that is critical to Africa’s economic growth and innovation.

Through strategic programs and partnerships, we aim to break barriers and open doors for women across all ICT disciplines. 

Our mission is to equip, connect, and inspire African women in technology by providing access to education, mentorship, funding, and leadership opportunities. Through these efforts, we are building an inclusive and sustainable digital ecosystem that enables women to excel, lead, and innovate.

    Elizabeth Chabaluka

    Elizabeth Chabaluka is a leading IT professional in Malawi. As the Manager of IT Service Delivery at NICO Technologies LTD, she uses her extensive experience to drive operations and enhance service quality. She holds a Master’s in Business Administration from ESAMI and a Bachelor’s degree in Computing and Information Systems from the London Metropolitan University. 

    Her proficiency spans across IT service management, service desk management, project management, and continuous service improvement, making her a key player in Malawi’s telecommunications sector. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Elizabeth serves as the Treasurer General for the Information Communication and Technology Association of Malawi (ICTAM). 

    Elizabeth is also an esteemed IT trainer, where she imparts her expertise in emerging technologies to aspiring professionals. Her mentorship through initiatives like GovTech further highlight her dedication to developing the next generation of IT professionals.

    Malebogo Khanda, the Secretary General of the Botswana Information Technology Society, is a driving force in capacity building and youth engagement within the ICT sector. Her work spans across networking, infrastructure, software development, and project management, with a strong focus on the development and integration of ICT in Botswana’s academic and economic sectors.
     
    A dynamic leader, she is deeply involved in facilitating training and awareness programs for ICT professionals, with a keen interest in the intersection of technology, climate change, and AI. Her passion for the internet’s role in diplomacy, cybersecurity, and digital literacy reflects her broader mission of fostering ICT innovation in Botswana.
     
    Malebogo’s dedication to advancing research and development in SMME value chain growth is shaping a resilient ICT ecosystem in Botswana. With a Master’s degree in Computer Systems Management, she continues to empower young entrepreneurs and professionals, ensuring that technology’s potential is fully realised in Botswana and across the continent.

    Bianca Pasipanodya

    Bianca Pasipanodya, as Group ICT Executive at First Mutual Holdings Limited, plays a crucial role in guiding the company’s long-term technology strategy. With over 20 years of experience in IT, including 12 in the financial sector, she has been instrumental in developing innovative enterprise solutions that address business challenges.
     
    With an MBA from Nottingham Trent University and various ICT certifications, Bianca’s leadership is central to First Mutual’s ongoing success. She currently oversees the group’s IT personnel, fostering a collaborative environment that drives technological advancements across the country.

    Gifty Mottey-Gowu, Director of Administration for the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IIPGH), is a passionate advocate for skills development and equal opportunities in the ICT sector. Under her leadership, the IIPGH has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at extending scholarships and ICT skills development programs to girls and female students in deprived communities.
     
    Gifty’s commitment to empowering women through technology has made a significant impact on the next generation of ICT professionals in Ghana. Her focus on inclusivity ensures that young women have access to the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the digital age.

    Joice Benza is a prominent figure in Africa’s ICT industry, renowned for her leadership and pioneering work in digital transformation. As the CEO of X-Pert Solutions, she leverages over 35 years of experience to deliver cutting-edge solutions in business strategy, cybersecurity, and project management. Benza’s expertise extends to Big Data Analytics and AI, positioning her as a visionary in navigating modern technology landscapes.

    She actively mentors and trains ICT professionals, while her governance roles on boards like the AFC Insurance Board and the presidency of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe (a primary member country of TICON Africa) underline her commitment to advancing the industry.

    Rowena Turinawe

    Rowena Turinawe, the head of Innovation and Digital Service at Centenary Technology Services recently earned the esteemed title of ‘ICT Young Professional of the Year’ at the 2023 TICON Africa Conference.

    Emphasising the significance of innovation beyond technology, she highlights its role in fostering inclusivity and shaping a future where technology bridges opportunities. Turinawe’s journey reflects her dedication to the ICT sector, from her involvement in crafting Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap to her collaboration with MTN Uganda on national digital skilling programs.

    Her extensive experience across public and private sectors, coupled with recognition as one of Africa’s Most Influential Women in Tech, underscores her leadership and visionary approach. Turinawe’s relentless pursuit of excellence serves as an inspiration, with the industry anticipating her future achievements eagerly.

    Juliana Ametorwogo

    Juliana Ametorwogo is a distinguished leader in Ghana’s telecommunications industry, celebrated for her expertise in Radio Access Network (RAN) operations and her unwavering commitment to advancing women in STEM. As an RNO Specialist and a seasoned Telecommunications Engineer, Juliana brings over 13 years of experience across various key positions. Her analytical skills and dedication to enhancing network performance and customer satisfaction have earned her the prestigious Global Hero Award from Vodafone on two occasions. 

    Beyond her technical achievements, Juliana is a powerful advocate for gender diversity in technology. She serves as the President of Women in Technology at Telecel and holds the role of Director for the Women’s wing at the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IIPGH). Her leadership extends to mentoring and empowering young women in STEM, highlighted by her selection as a Mentor in the 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures program by the New York Academy of Sciences.

    Viola Dondo is a dynamic leader in Zimbabwe’s IT sector, known for her strategic vision and commitment to digital empowerment. As the Executive Director of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe (CSZ) and the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) in CSA Trust, she has spent over nine years advancing the use of information technology across Zimbabwe and its neighbouring countries. Her expertise in strategic planning, business development, and operational management has been instrumental in driving the growth and impact of ICDL in the region. 

    Viola is passionate about upskilling marginalised communities, ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities to access and benefit from IT education and certification. Her involvement as a Toastmaster and Rotarian reflects her values of communication, collaboration, and service, which she integrates into her work to break barriers and make a difference in the field of IT. 

    A seasoned international TEDx speaker, Viola continuously seeks to learn and adapt to the ever-evolving digital world, making her a leading figure in the push towards a more inclusive and technologically advanced Zimbabwe.

    Dr Serah Beza Mbewe

    Dr Serah Beza Mbewe is a distinguished ICT leader and academic with over 18 years of experience in information technology, higher education, and institutional transformation. Currently serving as Director of ICT at Levy Mwanawasa Medical University (LMMU), she provides strategic direction across all campuses, ensuring robust ICT infrastructure, security, systems development, and training initiatives. 

    Her leadership extends nationally as the Vice President of the Information Communication Technology Association of Zambia, where she plays a key role in shaping the country’s ICT policy and capacity-building efforts. 
     
    Her expertise spans Management Information Systems, network administration, and software development, skills she has applied with distinction to drive digital transformation and institutional growth. As a woman committed to mentorship and progress, Dr Mbewe continues to break ground in both ICT and higher education, inspiring the next generation of Zambian women in tech.
