AI regulation is moving fast: Where is Africa’s collective voice?

As global AI regulation evolves across multiple regions, no single model dominates. From Europe and the US to Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, diverse approaches are shaping a polycentric governance landscape. Africa is actively engaging through continental and national strategies, but fragmented efforts risk limiting its influence.

Yet, Africa’s real opportunity lies not in catching up, but in coordinating its voice, strengthening institutions, and actively shaping global AI governance to reflect its priorities and developmental needs.
