TICON Africa is committed to championing gender equality and women's empowerment in the African ICT industry, paving the way for a more prosperous and equitable digital Africa. 

TICON Africa is committed to championing gender equality and women's empowerment in the African ICT industry, paving the way for a more prosperous and equitable digital Africa. 

The Women in ICT Chapter aims to create an inclusive environment that nurtures professional growth, leadership development, and networking opportunities for women in ICT throughout Africa.

Membership is open to all women in Africa interested in furthering the objectives of the chapter through TICON Africa. Additionally, external individuals, including partners and ICT professionals, may participate as non-voting members or guests.

The chapter is led by a diverse team, including a Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer, and committee members, with a focus on fostering diversity and inclusion.

Regular meetings, workshops, seminars, and networking events are organised to support the professional development of women in ICT.

TICON Africa advocates for gender equality, diversity, and inclusion in the ICT sector through internal and external initiatives, engaging with organisations and educational institutions.

The Women in ICT Chapter collaborates with relevant departments and initiatives within TICON Africa and external organisations to amplify impact and support common objectives.

Chapter leadership provides regular reports to TICON Africa management on activities, achievements, and challenges encountered. Periodic reviews ensure alignment with TICON Africa’s goals and values, incorporating feedback from members and stakeholders.

    Dr Mmaki Jantjies

    Dr Mmaki Jantjies is a renowned South African computer scientist who currently serves as the Group Executive of Innovation and Transformation at the telecommunications giant Telkom. Additionally, she holds the prestigious title of Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum. Alongside these roles, she is an Associate Professor in Information Systems and the founder of a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing exposure to critical STEM skills.

    Dr. Jantjies holds a PhD in Computer Science and has accumulated extensive experience in the technology field through various strategic positions. Notably, she represented South Africa in 2017 and 2018 as a delegate to the W20 digitization group, a G20 working group focused on the impact of technology on human resources in the digital age.

    Her commitment to advancing technology education is evident through her collaboration with UN Women and the Mozilla Foundation in founding Peo Ya Phetogo, which runs various STEM programmes to ensure that young South Africans take up technology as a business or career. Additionally, it offers programs to enhance teachers’ skills in digital literacy. Dr. Jantjies’ contributions to the South African technology sector have been recognized with numerous local and international awards.

    Elizabeth Ntege

    Elizabeth Ntege is a trailblazing leader in the ICT and HR sectors, reshaping the landscape of employment opportunities across Africa. As Group CEO of NFT Consult, NFT Mobility, and NFT Ignite, she has led her organisation to expand its operations across 12 countries in East and Southern Africa, with a focus on the Oil and Gas, Finance, IT, and Telecom sectors.
     
    With over 15 years of senior leadership experience, she has played a key role in harnessing business development strategies, data analytics, and HR expertise to drive digital transformation for small to medium-sized firms. Her visionary leadership has not only resulted in business growth and cost efficiencies but also in fostering sustainable employment across the continent.  
     
    Her influence extends to her role as Chairperson of the ICT Association of Uganda, where she continues to shape strategies that align with the country’s development goals. Elizabeth’s impact on the HR and ICT industries remains profound, as she breaks barriers and champions transformative solutions for Africa’s future.

    Joice Benza

    Joice Benza is a prominent figure in Africa’s ICT industry, renowned for her leadership and pioneering work in digital transformation. As the CEO of X-Pert Solutions, she leverages over 35 years of experience to deliver cutting-edge solutions in business strategy, cybersecurity, and project management. Benza’s expertise extends to Big Data Analytics and AI, positioning her as a visionary in navigating modern technology landscapes.

    She actively mentors and trains ICT professionals, while her governance roles on boards like the AFC Insurance Board and the presidency of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe (a primary member country of TICON Africa) underline her commitment to advancing the industry.

    With academic credentials from Nottingham Trent University and Wits Business School, Benza continues to drive Africa’s ICT evolution with resilience and innovation.

     

    Malebogo Khanda

    Malebogo Khanda, the Secretary General of the Botswana Information Technology Society, is a driving force in capacity building and youth engagement within the ICT sector. Her work spans across networking, infrastructure, software development, and project management, with a strong focus on the development and integration of ICT in Botswana’s academic and economic sectors.
     
    A dynamic leader, she is deeply involved in facilitating training and awareness programs for ICT professionals, with a keen interest in the intersection of technology, climate change, and AI. Her passion for the internet’s role in diplomacy, cybersecurity, and digital literacy reflects her broader mission of fostering ICT innovation in Botswana.
     
    Malebogo’s dedication to advancing research and development in SMME value chain growth is shaping a resilient ICT ecosystem in Botswana. With a Master’s degree in Computer Systems Management, she continues to empower young entrepreneurs and professionals, ensuring that technology’s potential is fully realised in Botswana and across the continent.

    Lillian Barnard

    Lillian Barnard boasts over two decades of experience in the ICT sector, marked by her groundbreaking achievements. In 2019, she made history as Microsoft South Africa’s first female CEO, and her ascent continued with her promotion to Microsoft Africa President in 2023. With a diverse background including executive roles at Vodacom and IBM, including an international assignment in France and Switzerland, Barnard brings a wealth of expertise to her current position.

    A fervent advocate for women’s empowerment, she actively fosters a culture of gender equality within Microsoft, exemplified by her collaboration with Duke Corporate Education to design a women-focused course.

    Barnard’s advice to women and young girls emphasises courage, surrounding oneself with inspirational figures, and striving for personal excellence. Her leadership embodies a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and driving positive change in the tech industry.

    Rowena Turinawe

    Rowena Turinawe, the head of Innovation and Digital Service at Centenary Technology Services recently earned the esteemed title of ‘ICT Young Professional of the Year’ at the 2023 TICON Africa Conference.

    Emphasising the significance of innovation beyond technology, she highlights its role in fostering inclusivity and shaping a future where technology bridges opportunities. Turinawe’s journey reflects her dedication to the ICT sector, from her involvement in crafting Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap to her collaboration with MTN Uganda on national digital skilling programs.

    Her extensive experience across public and private sectors, coupled with recognition as one of Africa’s Most Influential Women in Tech, underscores her leadership and visionary approach. Turinawe’s relentless pursuit of excellence serves as an inspiration, with the industry anticipating her future achievements eagerly.

    Bianca Pasipanodya

    Bianca Pasipanodya, as Group ICT Executive at First Mutual Holdings Limited, plays a crucial role in guiding the company’s long-term technology strategy. With over 20 years of experience in IT, including 12 in the financial sector, she has been instrumental in developing innovative enterprise solutions that address business challenges.
     
    With an MBA from Nottingham Trent University and various ICT certifications, Bianca’s leadership is central to First Mutual’s ongoing success. She currently oversees the group’s IT personnel, fostering a collaborative environment that drives technological advancements across the country.  
     
    Her extensive experience, ranging from business analysis to implementing core banking and ERP applications, ensures that First Mutual’s IT infrastructure aligns with the company’s goals

    Gifty Mottey-Gowu

    Gifty Mottey-Gowu, Director of Administration for the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IIPGH), is a passionate advocate for skills development and equal opportunities in the ICT sector. Under her leadership, the IIPGH has spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at extending scholarships and ICT skills development programs to girls and female students in deprived communities.
     
    Gifty’s commitment to empowering women through technology has made a significant impact on the next generation of ICT professionals in Ghana. Her focus on inclusivity ensures that young women have access to the skills and opportunities needed to thrive in the digital age.

    Juliana Ametorwogo

    Juliana Ametorwogo is a distinguished leader in Ghana’s telecommunications industry, celebrated for her expertise in Radio Access Network (RAN) operations and her unwavering commitment to advancing women in STEM. As an RNO Specialist and a seasoned Telecommunications Engineer, Juliana brings over 13 years of experience across various key positions. Her analytical skills and dedication to enhancing network performance and customer satisfaction have earned her the prestigious Global Hero Award from Vodafone on two occasions. 

    Beyond her technical achievements, Juliana is a powerful advocate for gender diversity in technology. She serves as the President of Women in Technology at Telecel and holds the role of Director for the Women’s wing at the Institute of ICT Professionals Ghana (IIPGH). Her leadership extends to mentoring and empowering young women in STEM, highlighted by her selection as a Mentor in the 1000 Girls, 1000 Futures program by the New York Academy of Sciences. 

    Viola Dondo

    Viola Dondo is a dynamic leader in Zimbabwe’s IT sector, known for her strategic vision and commitment to digital empowerment. As the Executive Director of the Computer Society of Zimbabwe (CSZ) and the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) in CSA Trust, she has spent over nine years advancing the use of information technology across Zimbabwe and its neighbouring countries. Her expertise in strategic planning, business development, and operational management has been instrumental in driving the growth and impact of ICDL in the region. 

    Viola is passionate about upskilling marginalised communities, ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities to access and benefit from IT education and certification. Her involvement as a Toastmaster and Rotarian reflects her values of communication, collaboration, and service, which she integrates into her work to break barriers and make a difference in the field of IT. 

    A seasoned international TEDx speaker, Viola continuously seeks to learn and adapt to the ever-evolving digital world, making her a leading figure in the push towards a more inclusive and technologically advanced Zimbabwe. 

    Elizabeth Chabaluka

    Elizabeth Chabaluka is a leading IT professional in Malawi. As the Manager of IT Service Delivery at NICO Technologies LTD, she uses her extensive experience to drive operations and enhance service quality. She holds a Master’s in Business Administration from ESAMI and a Bachelor’s degree in Computing and Information Systems from the London Metropolitan University. 

    Her proficiency spans across IT service management, service desk management, project management, and continuous service improvement, making her a key player in Malawi’s telecommunications sector. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Elizabeth serves as the Treasurer General for the Information Communication and Technology Association of Malawi (ICTAM). 

    Elizabeth is also an esteemed IT trainer, where she imparts her expertise in emerging technologies to aspiring professionals. Her mentorship through initiatives like GovTech further highlight her dedication to developing the next generation of IT professionals.
